D. K. Jayaraman, younger brother of D. K. Pattammal, was a celebrated Carnatic vocalist known for his nuanced phrases and expressive renditions, particularly of Muttusvāmi Dīkshitar’s compositions, which he imbibed directly from his sister and their teachers. A Sangita Kalanidhi awardee, Jayaraman’s singing was characterised by clarity of sahitya, emotional depth, and rhythmic balance. While trained in a broader Carnatic vocabulary, he took special interest in the Dīkshitar repertoire, performing kritis and lecturing on stylistic detail, maintaining fidelity to traditional intonation and interpretation. His artistic voice helped further consolidate the Dīkshitar paramparā in the 20th century. He is Vidwan R.K. Shriramkumar’s Guru.
Here ends the first branch of the Muttusvāmi Dīkshitar Parampara. However, there is another significant line leading from Muttusvāmi Dīkshitar to Sri R.K. Shriramkumar.
